Let’s define healthy eating

Healthy eating can never get “unconfusing.” One day, you hear some doctor saying cholesterol is bad for you, and the next day, you hear that all is well with cholesterol, and it is in fact, good for you! Ah, the vagaries of healthy eating is such that sometimes, you just don’t know what’s good and what’s not…

So take it with a pinch of salt. Whatever they say. It doesn’t matter if it’s the latest weight busting fad, or the next best way to regain hair color. When it comes to whether or not this food I am eating is good for me or not, as long as it’s not poison and it tastes and feels good…

But wait a minute, did you say that tartrazine is bad for health? Hell yeah, I did not. The doctors did. I don’t know if tartrazine will make me more hyperactive, but I don’t want to find out. I’m active enough already.

Since it makes sense to me, I’m going to continue being an advocate for healthy eating, and knowing what I’m eating. Best be on the safe side, eh? (more…)

When anxiety strikes

Anxiety panic attacks. I used to have them, when I was a kid. There is nothing quite like an anxiety panic attack, if you ever had one. It shuts you down and stops you cold. The symptoms vary from person to person. Sometimes the room spins. Other times, everything starts morphing into some jello like stuff . Your heart races, your stomach tightens, your legs get weak, and you get cold sweats.

Sometimes, the feeling is so overwhelming that nothing seems to overcome it, except maybe tranquilizers. I’ll be gasping for breath and having no way of controlling it. I remember the feeling, and it’s like the world coming to an end, if even for that moment.

Unfortunately, I didn’t figure out how to manage those panic attacks at that time, or make them go away. I have tried a number of anxiety treatments in the past, like sedatives or tranquilizers. But the problem was, these stuff makes you drowsy as well. So, they are really dangerous if you take them and drive as well. At first, sedatives will work, in the sense that they made the anxiety panic attacks better. However, the effect only lasts for a while. (more…)

Do you need advanced nutrients?

Our body is a remarkable work of art, and function. It can take tons of beating and pounding, and still live to see the next day. Every day, our bodies are subjected to a lot of stress, but I’m always amazed that at the end of the day, I come out quite alright. Anyway, my health is something I take seriously, although it can be a pain in the butt to keep it in tip top condition.

That’s why I take vitamins. Life is stressful these days, and so everything helps, especially what you eat. Multivitamins are all advanced nutrients, and so are substances or compounds that boost the health of the body, for example, phyto-chemical compounds in tablet form, or Coenzyme Q10. But there are reasons for, and against, taking advanced nutrients.

I know many people take vitamins because they know they aren’t eating like they should, but even some of them are taking a little too much. When you take too much nutrients, the liver needs to work overtime, and rid the body of what it doesn’t need, or can’t use. This can also wear down the liver a little at a time. In the case of vitamins, if the body doesn’t need a particular vitamin, it is flushed out of the system more often than not. Some vitamins don’t get flushed out easily, especially fat soluble vitamins like vitamin A, D, and E. (more…)
