Some quick tips on how to boost your metabolism

Overweight? Can’t stand to be obese? If you want to lose weight, you need to pay attention to a couple of things. These are amongst the most important things in weight loss, yet I’m constantly surprised how many people miss the plot when it comes to losing weight (and keeping it off).

The first thing to consider is your calorie intake – on a daily basis. Our bodies are designed to be frugal by nature, so it goes without saying that all excess calories are stored somewhere in your body as fat deposits. If your meals are mostly high calorie dishes, take a moment and think where those calories are ending up. Surely they are not going to disappear just like that?

Your calorie requirements are connected to your weight. The heavier you are, the more calories you need, while the converse is also true if you’re underweight. (more…)

I’m going to quit margarine

Margarine and butter, what’s the difference? I did a check and found out that both have roughly the same amount of calories, both are mostly fat (81%) , and no trace of fiber, but a little bit of sugar. So both are largely identical.

But the difference? Butter has been eaten for hundreds of years, and it is actually healthier. It contains many fat soluble vitamins that are highly absorbable. (more…)

If only we can eat more fruits like grapes

I can’t seem to get enough of fruits. Some of my favorite fruits are papaya, mango, oranges, and…grapes. Grapes are some of the most useful fruits mankind has cultivated.  All parts of the grape fruit from the skin to the seed have some health benefits. Although other fruits are also good, grapes contain an unusually high proportion of antioxidant flavanols that have proven anti aging benefits. These flavanols usually belong to the class called proanthocyanidins.

Proanthocyanidins are one of the most powerful antioxidants known. Even though vitamin C and E are well known as good antioxidants in their own right, proanthocyanidins are 20-50 times more powerful! (more…)

Remember to balance your pH

The body has a specific acid-alkaline balance that it needs to maintain, failing which it will start to manifest all kinds of bad symptoms. I just learned this recently.

You see, the body must always be slightly alkaline. A pH of roughly 7.1 or 7.2 is needed for good health. But, most people have an acidic pH instead, which is BAD for health. (more…)

Let’s define healthy eating

Healthy eating can never get “unconfusing.” One day, you hear some doctor saying cholesterol is bad for you, and the next day, you hear that all is well with cholesterol, and it is in fact, good for you! Ah, the vagaries of healthy eating is such that sometimes, you just don’t know what’s good and what’s not…

So take it with a pinch of salt. Whatever they say. It doesn’t matter if it’s the latest weight busting fad, or the next best way to regain hair color. When it comes to whether or not this food I am eating is good for me or not, as long as it’s not poison and it tastes and feels good…

But wait a minute, did you say that tartrazine is bad for health? Hell yeah, I did not. The doctors did. I don’t know if tartrazine will make me more hyperactive, but I don’t want to find out. I’m active enough already.

Since it makes sense to me, I’m going to continue being an advocate for healthy eating, and knowing what I’m eating. Best be on the safe side, eh? (more…)
