			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Overweight? Can&#8217;t stand to be obese? If you want to lose weight, you need to pay attention to a couple of things. These are amongst the most important things in weight loss, yet I&#8217;m constantly surprised how many people miss the plot when it comes to losing weight (and keeping it off).</p>
<p><strong>The first thing to consider is your calorie intake</strong> &#8211; on a daily basis. Our bodies are designed to be frugal by nature, so it goes without saying that all excess calories are stored somewhere in your body as fat deposits. If your meals are mostly high calorie dishes, take a moment and think where those calories are ending up. Surely they are not going to disappear just like that?</p>
<p>Your calorie requirements are connected to your weight. The heavier you are, the more calories you need, while the converse is also true if you&#8217;re underweight.<span id="more-53"></span></p>
<p><strong>The second thing to bear in mind is your metabolism</strong></p>
<p>Metabolism is the rate of burn for the calories you absorb from the food you eat. The better your metabolism, the better your rate of burn for any calories you break down from your food. A sluggish metabolism has a large role to play in <span style="text-decoration:underline;">keeping</span> your weight up, while an active metabolism usually means a slim physique, simply because your body is much more efficient in burning those calories off.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s why exercise is ALWAYS recommended by all those weight loss manuals; it is the main way of raising your metabolic rate!</p>
<p>So take these 2 quick tips to heart, and watch your diet and lifestyle closely. Losing weight is much easier than you think! Take it from someone who once weighed almost 90 kilos and was by all definitions, overweight.</p>

<p>Very unlikely. But still, if you want to stay on the safe side, and it is better to stay on the safe side, here&#8217;s some basic tips.<span id="more-49"></span></p>

<li>Avoid public places.</li>

<li>Avoid touching your nostrils, mouth, and eyes when you&#8217;re out in public.</li>
<li>Exercise regularly, keep your body as fit as you can.</li>
<li>Don&#8217;t worry, be happy. Sounds cliched but true.</li>
<li>Get adequate rest</li>
</ul>
<p>Here&#8217;s a list of herbs and natural substances that can boost your immune system:</p>
<ul>
<li>Green tea</li>
<li>Garlic</li>
<li>Cranberry juice</li>
<li>Apple cider vinegar</li>
<li>Astragalus</li>
<li>Vitamin C</li>
<li>Vitamin E</li>
</ul>
<p>Some foods to avoid because they increase mucous production or cytokine TNF-a and IL-6 in the body:</p>
<ul>
<li>Dairy products</li>
<li>Bananas</li>
<li>Chocolate</li>
<li>Honey</li>
<li>Spirulina</li>
<li>Chlorella</li>
</ul>
<p>Cytokines TNF-a and IL-6 are the body&#8217;s antibodies and when these cytokines are at an excessive level, they trigger off what is called a cytokine storm. So your body&#8217;s defences may actually get worse, rather than better.</p>
<p>The best way to keep healthy is to ensure your body&#8217;s immunity does not dip. That means doing the needful, and not taking unnecessary chances with your health, like working late night shifts and eating poorly. As they say, prevention is better than cure.</p>

Organic farming is basically growing plants and vegetables using as natural methods as possible.</p>
<p>So what&#8217;s wrong with that??<span id="more-45"></span></p>
<p>I tell you what&#8217;s wrong. It&#8217;s wrong because if this bill were to be approved, it will put all our health a little more at RISK. Considering the amount of pesticides we take in on a daily basis, is it any wonder so many of us are ill or not really as healthy as we should be?</p>
<p>It will take away more of our rights and liberty, and what could be more rightful than the ability to plant and grow plants from seed using natural, time tested methods that our forefathers employed?</p>
<p>If it takes hold in the US, its effects are also going to be felt all around the world. More power to Big Corp and less to the man in the street. Yeah right, way to go. This is just getting way too much take&#8230;.</p>
<p>Harassing farmers now, and paving the way for Genetically Modified Foods or GMO. Perhaps you want to ask what&#8217;s GMO next. If you only knew the potential health hazards of GMO&#8230;..</p>
<p>The buck has to stop.</p>

<p>Like yours truly.</p>
<p>I abused my health for several years, not eating right, not having breakfast, sleeping late, and not getting any exercise at all. Put that down to having a job that necessitates working for 12 hours. Luckily I didn&#8217;t smoke or drink, but that alone is enough to almost bring the fittest person down.<span id="more-41"></span></p>
<p>Or maybe I&#8217;m luckier than some?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Margarine and butter, what&#8217;s the difference? I did a check and found out that both have roughly the same amount of calories, both are mostly fat (81%) , and no trace of fiber, but a little bit of sugar. So both are largely identical.</p>
<p>But the difference? Butter has been eaten for hundreds of years, and it is actually healthier. It contains many fat soluble vitamins that are highly absorbable. <span id="more-35"></span></p>
<p>Margarine on the other hand is high in trans fat, and has a lot of cholesterol. And I just read this part which I quote here:</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC</strong>&#8230;</p>
<p>This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).</p>
<p>YOU can try this yourself: purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things: no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)&#8230; it does not rot or smell differently&#8230; because it has no nutritional value, nothing will grow on it&#8230; even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your tupperware and spread that on your toast?</p></blockquote>

<p>I must confess I never really liked the &#8220;artificial&#8221; feeling I have from margarine, so I won&#8217;t have any problem ditching the margarine and going back to butter anyway.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I can&#8217;t seem to get enough of fruits. Some of my favorite fruits are papaya, mango, oranges, and&#8230;grapes. Grapes are some of the most useful fruits mankind has cultivated.  All parts of the grape fruit from the skin to the seed have some health benefits. Although other fruits are also good, grapes contain an unusually high proportion of antioxidant flavanols that have proven anti aging benefits. These flavanols usually belong to the class called proanthocyanidins.</p>
<p>Proanthocyanidins are one of the most powerful antioxidants known. Even though vitamin C and E are well known as good antioxidants in their own right, proanthocyanidins are 20-50 times more powerful!<span id="more-23"></span></p>
<p>Antioxidants are important to neutralize free radicals which are all around us, and free radicals are the ones that can destabilize our body cells and make them age even faster. They are also blamed for causing cancer and heart disease.</p>
<p>Could that be why people who drink a lot of red wine and eat a lot of grapes often look young and fit? Take for example, the wine growing counties in California, or the south of France, where grapes are a major crop. It seems the incidence of heart disease is much lower in these regions compared to elsewhere, despite the high fat diets of the people there.</p>

<p>You see, the body must always be slightly alkaline. A pH of roughly 7.1 or 7.2 is needed for good health. But, most people have an acidic pH instead, which is BAD for health.<span id="more-20"></span></p>
<p>That&#8217;s probably why cancer, athritis, gout, and so many other health problems are on the rise. How come our ancestors did not have so many health problems? Was it because they ate a lot of fruits and plant material, which usually contributes to an alkaline body pH value?</p>
<p>It seems cows that graze on grass will instinctively avoid grass growing on alkaline soil, and will always prefer grass growing on acidic soil instead. Today&#8217;s diet is loaded with protein, which many think is the way to go, but such excessive protein also creates an acidic situation in the body, leading to many potential health problems.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s why you should be eating lots of fruits, especially citrus fruits. The paradox is that acidic foods make the body alkaline, while alkaline foods make the body acidic. Listen to your body the next time; is it craving for acidic foods? If yes, then it&#8217;s likely your body is already too acidic and needs to be made more alkaline.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are people in this world who cannot sleep at all. I mean they really cannot sleep, and yet on the surface they seem healthy enough. I wonder what would you do, if you really can&#8217;t sleep at all, for days on end? I just did a bit of research, and it seems there is a disorder called chiari malformation, it&#8217;s more common than you think, and the sufferers can&#8217;t sleep for days, yet superficially appear healthy.<span id="more-17"></span></p>
<p>There was this news story on Yahoo about <a title="A kid who can't sleep" href="http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/OnCall/story?id=6711810&amp;page=1">a kid who can&#8217;t sleep</a>. I got thinking, would I be more productive this way? I don&#8217;t want to a workaholic. There are people who don&#8217;t want to sleep, people who always feel 24 hours a day is not enough. Are you one of them?</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but I don&#8217;t think all those <a title="modafinil" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modafinil">modafinil</a> popping dudes are taking care of their health. Modafinil culture is still a novelty, but who knows about the long term side effects for all these people 10 years from now? I think messing with nature or the laws that govern nature is simply not right&#8230;</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A new year has come, and therefore a time to look at new beginnings. As usual, better health is one of my main aims. So what did I do lately? Well, the past few months have been nothing but hectic. I&#8217;ve been upping my exercise regimen to several times a week, and I&#8217;ve been trying to sleep earlier. As for eating, I am trying to get more fruits and green vegetables in my system.</p>
<p>All these is starting to show an effect, but wow, it&#8217;s a long haul. I believe anyone who has good health should not take it for granted. Losing it can be very, very costly.<span id="more-15"></span></p>
<p>I should know better. Working in a high stress environment, and subjected to constant exposure to radiation can be brutal. Not having the time (or energy) to exercise, not taking vitamins, not eating fruits, and most of all, not getting enough sleep, that&#8217;s been my lifestyle for years. Only in recent times did I awaken to the truth.</p>
<p>So, my resolutions for this year:</p>
<p>1) Slow down my aging process</p>
<p>2) Get enough sleep</p>
<p>3) Detox myself of all the accumulated chemicals in my body</p>
<p>Knowing well that resolutions are almost never kept but still, better late than never. If it&#8217;s that cigarette addiction that you need to kick, than kick it. If it&#8217;s cultivating a more calm disposition, than adopt a meditation program. If it&#8217;s kicking the bottle, than do it.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s always better late than never.</p>

This post is a reminder for all of us about an essential nutrient that we really need, for without it, our bodies gradually break down and deteriorate. That nutrient is chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is what makes the plants green. It is a green pigment in plants whose purpose is to help absorb the rays from the sun, for the plant.</p>
<p>I think nowadays, our diets are largely deficient in chlorophyll. Days can go by without us taking in chlorophyll, and this is not supposed to happen. Chlorophyll deficiency symptoms include increased susceptibility to diseases, and poor health of the cells. It seems that chlorophyll is needed to help cells metabolize themselves, and rejuvenate themselves too.<span id="more-8"></span></p>
<p>Chlorophyll can be obtained from alfalfa leaves, spirulina, or chlorella. All these sources are VERY high in chlorophyll and other nutrients as well. Besides them, you might have correctly guessed that dark green, leafy vegetables are very good sources of chlorophyll as well.</p>
<p>If you cannot obtain chlorophyll easily, you should be getting some dark green leafy vegetables instead. Or if all else fails, try taking a few chlorophyll tablets during the day. Chlorophyll is one of those nutrients that should be replenished every day, but thank God, it is quite widely available in most pharmacies. Taking some of those green stuff helps improve our overall immune system, and it is also assists in absorption of some minerals and amino acids. I&#8217;ve heard that chlorophyll also helps the body, or more specifically the liver, to get rid of toxins.</p>
